Previously, Fernando was Chief Executive responsible for Asset Management, Private Banking and Insurance of Grupo Santander while being member of its Management Comitee, as well as a Director of several companies of Grupo Santander. He has also been a Director of the Caixa Gral Bank, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sample Test (clinical analysis laboratory and diagnosis services in Spain and Portugal), Executive Vice-Chairman of Corporacion Eólica CESA (renewable energy company), Chairman of Transmol Logística (hydrocarbons logistics and natural gas management company) and Independent Board Member of Cortefiel and Zeltia.

Concha has a degree in law from Universidad Autonoma Madrid, an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa and a PDG IESE from Universidad de Navarra.
José leads the investment team for several of Azora’s investment vehicles.
Prior to joining the Azora Group in 2013, he worked for 10 years in Investment Banking at UBS and 2 years as a consultant in BCG.
José holds a degree in Business Administration from ICADE and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Alfonso joined Azora in 2018 as part of the residential area team. Prior to joining the Azora Group, in his more than ten years of experience, Alfonso worked in the real estate ﬁnance team for RBS Global Banking in Spain and as Corporate Finance Director for Savills Aguirre Newman.
Alfonso holds a Business degree by the Universidad San Pablo CEU and an MBA by the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid.
Javier Arús leads the investment in the hotel segment for the different investment vehicles of Azora Group. The team conducts the analysis of potential investments, the refurbishments and the asset management.
Javier Arus has been responsible for the restructuring of the Carey fund since its management by Azora. Javier has led the acquisition of Hispania´s hotel portfolio, from March 2014 to December 2017 becoming the largest hotel owner in Spain.
Prior to joining the Group in 2010, he worked for 15 years at Banco Santander, where he held various positions in Investment Banking, Asset Management and Private Banking. In 2004, Javier was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Banco Santander Suisse and, in 2007, Chief Executive Officer of the Santander Private Banking International Division.
Javier obtained a business law degree with honours from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Javier joined Azora in 2019 and leads the investment of the Renewable Energy segment.
Previously, he was Principal for the global BCG’s energy practice and worked in the energy and infrastructure area at Alantra. In Abengoa he held diﬀerent management positions related with the development, management, operation and M&A of energy assets, including 2,000 MW solar plants.
Javier holds a MSc in Industrial Engineering from the Navarra University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Javier has been the investement manager of the Student Accomodation segment of Azora between 2014 and 2017.
Javier started working for the Azora Group in 2010, when he was senior investment analyst for the acquisition of the SAREB loan from REALIA and in the Azora Europa vehicle (Office segment).
Previously, he has been linked to real estate investment in the residential area in ING Real Estate Development and Ferrovial Inmobiliaria coordinating multidisciplinary development teams.
Javier is an Architect by ETSAM, PDD by IESE and holds a Master of Real Estate Management and Property Management by Universidad San Pablo CEU-Camuñas Foundation.
General Manager of Smart Hoper
Carlos Cano started his career at Azora in 2014 leading the commercial and operations area at Resa, the largest student accommodation platform in Continental Europe with over 9,000 operating beds. Currently he is the responsible of Smart Hoper, the boutique hostel operator created by Azora, who aims to redefine the urban lodging concept using the customer’s experience as a differentiating factor for this asset class.
Prior to Azora, Carlos worked for more than ten years in the events and live music sector, primarily in rolls linked to the product definition, marketing and commercialization as well as sponsorships.
Carlos has a degree in Business Administration by Esade and has an EMBA from IESE.
Commercial Director of Azzam
Previously she was heading the sales team at Azzam, and prior to her venture at Azzam she was head of the residential department at Altamira Asset Management and head of financing at Grupo Lar.
Rocío has a degree in economics, a Master in Urbanism from Universidad of Malaga and an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa.
Client Development Director
Rodrigo joined Azora in 2019 to lead its client development efforts. Prior to this, he worked at Goldman Sachs’ London office for 13 years, in both the Financial Institutions Group (within Investment Banking) and the Equity Capital Markets team (heading the coverage for Iberia and Greece). In this context, he has led numerous transactions in the real estate space, including IPOs, capital raisings and mergers and acquisitions.
Rodrigo holds a BSc in Business Administration and Finance from CUNEF university, in Madrid.
Product Development Director
Llanos joined Azora in 2017 within the area of hotel product development of Hispania Activos Inmobiliarios and Carey. She is currently responsible for the product development in the hospitality business.
Llanos has an extensive professional career in the hospitality and tourism segment. During the last five years she held management positions in the hotels of Villa Padierna & Resorts Hotel Group.
She is the founder of the projects and construction company Hirim for All.
Llanos has a degree in information Science from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and a degree in Fine Arts.
Manager of Operations of Azzam
In Azora since 2015.
Previously he was Manager of Support and Development at BNP Paribas, Manager of asset management at Gesinar Servicios Inmobiliarios and Manager of General Services at Reale Grupo Generale.
Carlos joined Azora in 2015, and he is head of senior housing investments of the Group.
Previously, he was partner at Baring Private Equity, fund specialized in Spanish midcaps. The invested companies had a cumulated turnover of € 1,000 Million and 20,000 employees. He has also been a founding partner and director of the European practice of the strategic advisory group Monitor, founded by Professor Michael Porter and now part of Deloitte consulting unit.
Carlos is Board member of various companies, including: Unitronics, Avanza, Castelao and Doalca.
Carlos is a Senior Telecommunications Engineer by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and holds an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa (IESE Madrid).
Hotels Operations Director
In Azora since 2017, previously she was operations manager for Spain and Portugal at Laureate International Universities (5 years), being a member of the Executive Committee. Prior to that, and having started her career as an auditor at Arthur Andersen, she held positions of financial management and management control.
Macarena has a degree in economic and business sciences from ICADE.
Mónica leads the investments in alternative lodging segment for the different investment vehicles of Azora Group.
Until December 2017, Mónica was the student housing Managing Director, responsible for the Group´s Student Accommodation asset class with almost 9,000 beds in Spain, leading the expansion, management, and divestment process. Previously, she started the renewal energy platform of Azora.
Prior to joining Azora in 2010, Mónica worked for 21 years in the financial sector. Since 2003 to 2010, she was Managing Director and CEO of UBS Spain. Previously, she worked during 14 years in Grupo Santander, where she was responsible for Wealth Management, Corporate Banking and Credit Risk Officer.
Mónica is industrial engineering by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and has an MBA from IESE (Universidad de Navarra).
Gonzalo joined Azora in 2014 and is responsible for hospitality and leisure investments at Azora.
During his career at Azora, Gonzalo has successfully led the acquisitions of more than 55 hotels and 15,000 hotel keys across Europe, totaling more than €1.7 billion, working with leading domestic and international hotel operators and including the acquisitions of 16 hotels to Barceló Group, 7 hotels to MedPlaya or the joint-venture signed with Palladium Group, among many others. He has also led the disposal of several hotel assets in Europe and participated in the disposal of Hispania to Blackstone.
Prior to joining Azora in 2014, Gonzalo was a Vice President in the Investment Banking Division at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) in the Madrid office, spending almost two years in BAML’s IBK Real Estate & Lodging team in the London office, and also worked for Deloitte. Gonzalo had a critical role in the coverage of BAML’s key accounts in Spain with great exposure to Real Estate, Leisure, TMT and energy sectors, and executed a wide variety of M&A, debt and equities transactions such as the acquisitions of Cimpor by Camargo Correa and e-plus by Telefónica, the merger of Iberdrola and Iberdrola Renovables, the sales of O2 Ireland to Hutchison, seven InterContinental hotels to Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds and ENCE’s operations in Uruguay to Stora Enso / Arauco, and the IPO of Telefónica Deutschland AG and Atlas Estates, among many others.
Gonzalo holds a degree in business administration and management and an MBA from ESADE University in Barcelona.
Cristina García-Peri is Head of Corporate Development and Strategy for the Azora Group.
Prior to joining the Azora Group in 2011, she worked for 16 years in the investment-banking sector at both Merrill Lynch (2 years) and JP Morgan (14 years), where she held various positions in the area of Mergers and Acquisitions for 4 years and for 10 years as Managing Director responsible for Corporate Equity Derivatives for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Her last two years in investment banking took place at Merrill Lynch where, in addition to continuing to lead Corporate Equity Derivatives, she also was responsible for Equity Capital Markets for Spain and Portugal. She started her career in McKinsey in Spain.
She is also independent board member at Evo Banco in Spain, a c. €5bn asset bank with a strong focus on digital banking, where she also chairs the Risk Committee as well as the Audit Committee.
She is also member of the Circulo de Empresarios (business leaders think tank), member of the ESG Committee of INREV and is Chairwoman of Plan International in Spain, an independent and humanitarian not-for-profit organisation focused on advancing children´s right and equality for girls.
Cristina has a degree summa cum laude in economic and business sciences from ICADE (Spain) and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Financial Director of the Azora Group
With more than 20 years of experience in the real estate sector, prior to joining the Azora Group in 2011, she was manager for Deloitte in the real estate audit and consulting area, where she worked for 8 years. After that she worked at Group Reyal Urbis being appointed in 2007 Deputy General Corporate Director.
Mar has a degree in Economics and Business Administration by ICADE.
Business Development Director Azora Energy
Juan Miguel joined Canepa Green Energy (managed by Azora) in 2011, to lead the investment strategy in renewable energy. Within Azora he has also led special transactions such as finance-structuring plans and the Azora-Hispania Energy Master Plan. Juan Miguel was formally integrated into Azora in 2019 as the Business Development Director for Azora Energy, in charge of the development of Solar PV and Wind energy assets.
Previously, in his more than 20 years of experience, Juan Miguel has developed almost all of his professional career in the renewable energy sector working in multinational companies as Manager of Promotion and Development in Europe, LATAM and India (managing more than 1,500 MW in wind and photovoltaic energy) working as Technical and Construction Director in Corporación Eólica CESA; Global Technical Manager Director in EOXIS (Platina Partners, London); and Co-Founder and Manager Director in several platforms of renewable energy investment, among which Anemoi Renovables stands out.
Juan Miguel is a Technical Engineer by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and holds a degree in business administration and in economics. Additionally, he also collaborates with the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL) in the Renewable Energy Master.
Álvaro joined Azora in 2018 after successfully selling U Hostels in 2017.
As an entrepreneur, he founded U Hostels in 2012. The first premium hostel in Madrid and one of the first in Europe of these type of hostels. U Hostel consolidated a new trend in the low cost accommodation, where new premium hostels started to grow. U Hostels was awarded and selected by several well-know publications as one of the top ten hostels in the world.
For 5 years, he successfully managed the company, leading its expansion into new locations (Paris) and new markets (touristic apartments). He was able to achieve 22% return for his investors.
Prior to U Hostels, Álvaro worked for 3 years as an Investment Banker for Deutsche Bank, advising on several M&A and ECM deals worth more than 7.0bn€. Prior to Deutsche Bank, he worked as a business consultant for Bearing Point (formerly Arthur Andersen Consulting).
Álvaro holds an MBA from IESE Business School and The Wharton School and a Business Administration Degree from Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF).
Manager of Compliance and Risk Management
In Azora since 2011. She has participated in the definition, implementation and monitoring of the regulatory compliance and risk management program of the group. Previously, she worked for 5 years in the financial audit department of Deloitte, where she has specialized in the review of financial statements and internal control of companies supervised by the CNMV, such as the Santander Group and other relevant companies of the Spanish financial system.
Vanessa has a degree in Economics from Universidad de Oviedo.
Antonio joined Azora in 2014 and before that, in his more than 19 years of experience, he has developed his professional career in real estate, industrial and financial sectors, taking various positions in financial and control areas at national and international level in multinational and listed companies such as Vice-President of Planning, Control of Giant Cement Company in the United States and Managing Director of the Cementos Portland Valderrivas Group.
Antonio has a degree in business administration and management, an MBA from the School of Industrial Organization (EOI) and a Master in Corporate Finance from ESADE. Additionally, he is a Certified Internal Auditor by The Institute of Internal Auditors (Florida).
Manager of Corporate Development
She started her career in the Azora Group in 2014 within the area of Corporate Development. Previously Tamara worked for six years at UBS Investment Bank participating in IPO operations as well as mergers and acquisitions of a wide range of assets with a special focus in Spain.
Tamara holds a degree in business administration and management from ICADE (E-2) and an Honors Degree in Actuarial and Financial Sciences from ICADE.
Manager of Internal Audit
In Azora since 2014. He has participated in the elaboration and implementation of the internal supervision model of the processes of management, administration, accounting and corporate management, carrying out the review, evaluation and maintenance of the internal controls of the business and corporate units of the group.
Previously, he was Internal Auditor of the DIA Group and SegurCaixa Adeslas, performing functions of supervision of the control systems and definition of the Risk Management methodology. He also worked in the areas of audit and internal consulting at EY.
Juan has a degree in business administration and management from Universidad San Pablo CEU.
Managing Director of Azzam
Tomás started his career at Azora Group in 2019 as General Manager of Azzam. Prior to Azora he worked for 22 years at Banco Santander, holding different positions, always related to the business world, both at a client level and at a product level. He’s been responsible for Client’s Segments such as Large Businesses and SMEs at Santander Spain, and responsible for Development Businesses and Real Estate Activities. He also participated in the creation of the first debt fund for SMEs in Spain within the banking segment. In his last role at Santander he was General Manager of Santander Lease.
Prior to his time at Banco Santander he worked at Chase Manhattan Bank managing the large corporations’ segment.
Tomás holds a Business and Economics degree by the Complutense University in Madrid and has a General Management Program degree IESE by the Navarra University.
Santiago leads the investment in energy, infrastructure and logistic segments of Azora Group. He joined Azora in 2018 to expand the investment strategy to new activities and capital-intensive sectors.
Prior to joining the group, Santiago worked for 16 years at Ferrovial, where he was CEO of Ferrovial Services and Member of the Group´s Managing committee since 2007. Santiago led the growth and internationalization of the Service Division, reaching a turnover of over €7,000M, 75,000 employees and presence in 10 countries. He has also been member of the board of Heathrow and other companies partially owned by Ferrovial.
Previously, he worked as Principal Associate in Mckinsey, focusing his activity in the Energy and Industry sectors.
Santiago is an industrial engineering by the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICAI) and has an MBA from MIT (Sloan School of Management).
Jean Marc is co-head of the office segment of the Azora Group. During his career, Jean Marc has led sales to institutional investors of nearly 200,000 sqm of retail and office space. Since joining the Group, he has led the acquisition of over 100,000 sqm of office space in Europe.
Jean Marc joined the Group in May 2007 to lead the investment and management of Azora Europa.
Prior to joining the Group, Jean Marc worked during 15 years for the Bouygues Immobilier Group, (French developer). He started as regional director for Catalonia, later becoming chief executive officer for Bouygues Inmobiliaria, the subsidiary of the group for Spain and Portugal. In 2005, he was appointed chief officer for Europe of Bouygues Immobilier. He started his professional career in 1986 in the international construction company SAE.
Jean Marc is graduated from École Supérieure de Commerce d’Amiens (France) and has an International Master degree from INSEAD.
He was the first team member of Azora Group in 2003. Javier has been very active within the Group, contributing to the development of the largest institutional portfolio of residential rental properties in Spain, with an investment of over €1 billion. This portfolio consists of turnkey developments and buildings acquired from large real estate developers. Javier was, as well, responsible for the property management subsidiary of the Group, in charge of the daily management of the residential portfolio.
Currently he leads investments in leisure and entertainment segment of the Azora Group.
Previously, he was a senior banker at Atlas Investment Bank and worked in the consulting area of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Javier is a senior industrial engineer from the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid.
Human Resources Director
She started her career at Azora in 2016 and previously she was associate of Garrigues for 8 years and Human Resources and Tax Director of Grupo Lico for 10 years.
Ana has a degree in economics from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid (CEU San Pablo) and an Executive Master in Human Resources from Centro de Estudios Garrigues.
Manager of the Technical Department
He joined Azora in 2007, and has actively participated in the investment and management processes of Azora Europa, Carey and Hispania since then.
Prior to joining Azora, he was the Manager of Heritage and unique buildings in Vallehermoso, and Manager at Hormigones y Construcciones de Aragón.
Eduardo is civil engineer by the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid and holds a Master PDD by IESE.
Javier joined Azora in 2007. He is the head of the residential area and leads with Jean Marc Parnier the office segment., Javier has been leading also “special situation” transactions such as the acquisition of biggest distress corporate debt position from SAREB or the restructuring of a renewable energy company.
Prior joining Azora, Javier had a well-balanced professional experience of 15 years across different industries, working in strategic consulting (McKinsey & Co.), in the renewable energy sector (as Business Development and International MD of Corporación Eólica CEASA) and in the automotive industry (as President of the Spanish Automotive Distribution Sector).
Javier obtained a business administration degree (major in finance) from the Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF) and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania (dual major in strategy and operations).
Manager at the Legal Area
He started his career at Azora Group in 2007.
Previously, he was a senior associate at Pérez-Llorca Law Firm.
Martín has a degree in Law from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid. He also holds a master in Legal Advisory from the Instituto de Empresa.
General Counsel & Coordinator of the Legal Area at Azora Group
Prior to joining the Group in 2009, she worked for more than 12 years practicing in national and international Law Firms, as senior associate at Uria Menendez Law Firm and, previously, as junior associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. She focused her professional activity in Real Estate & Financial Law; as well as in Contractual& Commercial Law.
Prior to joining Azora, she advised domestic and foreign investment companies and funds in all types of operations and investment transactions, management and divestment of real estate assets.
María Luisa obtained a Law degree with honours (EU Law Specialty) from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (CEU San Pablo). From 2008 to 2014, she has taught undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE), sharing the economic and business world.
